We represented a client charged with several drug-related offences, including bringing a prohibited substance into a correctional centre while visiting another person in custody. The conduct was viewed seriously, and given the client’s extensive criminal history, a sentence of full-time imprisonment was a clear possibility.
We provided the Court with material explaining the client’s personal circumstances, the context of the offending, and the steps he had taken since the incident. After considering our submissions, the Court was satisfied that a custodial penalty was not required. The client was sentenced to a 12-month unsupervised Community Correction Order together with a modest fine.
Outcome: 12-month unsupervised Community Correction Order. No imprisonment.
