Police sought an Apprehended Domestic Violence Order that included our client’s one-year-old child. This prevented contact and disrupted existing parenting arrangements. We reviewed the allegation, gathered character references and prepared material showing that the conduct arose during an emotional exchange rather than a continuing pattern of risk. The court did not record a conviction for the related charge. We then negotiated changes to the ADVO so the child was removed as a protected person and parenting contact could resume. The final order still protected the adults while allowing practical communication and safe changeovers.

Our client faced sentence for repeat driving while disqualified. The history was serious and included several previous similar matters, creating a real risk of imprisonment. We urgently gathered material showing the client’s work responsibilities, family support, rehabilitation and caring obligations. At sentence, we accepted that the offending was serious but submitted that a community-based penalty would better support rehabilitation while still holding the client accountable. The court accepted that full-time imprisonment was not necessary. The client received a community-based order and avoided being taken into custody.

A client was charged in connection with a drug supply matter involving cocaine and further related allegations. The prosecution case was serious, but the client’s role was limited compared with others involved. We prepared material addressing rehabilitation, personal circumstances, work prospects and the client’s acceptance of responsibility. We also made submissions distinguishing the client’s position from more serious co-accused. The court accepted that a custodial sentence was not required and imposed a Community Correction Order. The client avoided imprisonment while remaining subject to court supervision and strict obligations.
